Lupton Lodge provides boutique accommodation in an attractive rural setting within easy reach of both Whangarei city and the Tutukaka Coast.
Lupton Lodge offers luxurious hotel-style ensuite rooms, each with its own unique style and character.

Each room is unique with it’s own character and individual style. We have invested in providing quality, comfortable beds with 100% cotton sheets. Our bathrooms are modern and stylish with powerful showers, heated towel rails, hairdryers and accessories. Our guest bedrooms are climate controlled by heat pumps or you can open a window for some fresh country air. The rooms are furnished with your needs in mind and include bathrobes, luggage racks, irons, 32″ flat-screen TVs, DVD players, i-Pod docks, tea/coffee facilities and plunger coffee. Cleanliness is also one of our top priorities at Lupton Lodge.
Guest Facilities – Added Extras At No Additional Cost
As part of our mission to offer the best place to stay in Whangarei we like to give our guests plenty of added extras when they stay. Gourmet a la carte breakfast is included in all our tariffs, along with free wifi access for multiple devices. There is a wide range of DVDs to watch and books to borrow. You can relax in the guest lounge or wander around the spacious mature gardens on a sunny day.
If you are away for a while we can take the hassle out of thinking about your laundry – for a small fee we will wash and dry your clothes for you and deliver them back to your room when you need them. If you are worried about your luggage when you arrive in Whangarei or on the day you leave, we are happy to safely store your bags for you during the day. Lupton Lodge has complimentary safe off-street parking that is well out of view of the road with space to store a trailer, boat or bike while you are out and about.
Relaxed Quality Meals in a Tranquil Setting
A delicious restaurant quality evening meal without the need to drive afterwards is a treat when you travel. At Lupton Lodge our restaurant-style dinner menu has a wide range of choices and is cooked fresh to order. Our reasonably priced drinks menu includes NZ wines & beers and non-alcoholic beverages – these can accompany your meal or be delivered to your room on request. If you have special dietary requirements we are happy to accommodate these and will create a special menu for you when you order in advance.
A great breakfast is important whether you are working, driving long distances or planning a busy day diving, walking or exploring. Our hotel breakfast includes a cafe-style hot breakfast menu cooked fresh to order, hot beverages, juice, cereals, toast, yoghurts and fresh fruit. Many of our guests tell us it is the best breakfast they have had on their trip to New Zealand. And better yet, breakfast is complimentary with our room tariffs.
Keeping it Green
Looking after the environment and minimising our carbon footprint are important to us at Lupton Lodge. We live in a beautiful, natural place and we want to keep it that way.
When you stay at Lupton Lodge you are welcome to wander around our orchard or farm at your leisure. Our orchard has a wide range of fruit and nut trees and there is usually something in season all year round that you can pick straight from the tree. Our trees are spray-free so you can eat the fruit as you pick it. We try to use our own produce where possible in our breakfasts and desserts. Lupton Lodge is a 11 acre lifestyle farm. We have cattle, free-ranging chickens, a goat and occasionally lambs or horses.
There is a pleasant private road adjacent to Lupton Lodge which we recommend for short strolls or you can drive 5 minutes to the Whangarei Falls for something a bit more challenging. There are so many stunning natural environments to explore in Whangarei it is sometimes hard to know which one to choose first!
Exploring the Best of Whangarei and Northland
To see the best of Whangarei you ideally need to have access to a car. The 100s of attractive beaches, world-class walkways, dramatic scenery, quality galleries and great places to eat nearly all involve driving away from the city centre. Lupton Lodge is a 10 minute drive from Whangarei city so we recommend that you have your own vehicle when you stay. We think that being away from the city but close enough to easily access all the highlights of the area offers the best of both worlds. We are located 1/2 way between the Tutukaka Coast and Whangarei city and only 7 km off SH1 – you really can’t find a better location.
When you come to a new place local knowledge is invaluable to help you get the most out of your visit. If you need any guidance Andy and Karen are happy to spend some time helping you plan the best activities and attractions to include during your stay. If you are looking for free activities there are plenty in our area – it’s great to know where to start. Whether you are looking for the most popular attractions in Whangarei and Northland or trying to get off the beaten track we can point you in the right direction. We are happy to help with advice on the Whangarei district, Northland region or New Zealand as a whole.
The Best Places to Eat Out in Whangarei
Food lovers are in for a treat in Whangarei. Some of the best restaurants are a little hard to find so don’t be afraid to ask for advice when you are choosing where to eat in Whangarei or the Tutukaka Coast. If it’s fine dining you are looking for then The Quay, Tonic and Top Sail are 3 of our top recommendations. For casual dining with a great atmosphere you can’t go past iconic Schnappa Rock in Tutukaka Marina. Thai Food is very popular these days and Suk Jai restaurant in Kensington produces some of the best we have encountered either here or in Thailand. For lunch time cafes you drive out to Helena Bay Cafe or if you are heading into Whangarei city both Nectar and DeLuca are popular favourites. When eating out on a budget you shouldn’t go past Fat Camel on Quality Street, Whangarei or The Swordfish Club in Tutukaka. But for a true Kiwi holiday experience pick up takeaway fish & chips from Ngunguru Takeaways and sit by the beach while you eat straight from the paper.
