We loved the old villa style which was beautifully furnished and very comfortable.

If you want a special weekend away, Lupton Lodge would be hard to beat.

Dinner

For dinner our menu changes daily but all the chicken is now free-range. Some of the free-range chicken menu options include:

• Warm free-range chicken salad with blue cheese, home-grown roasted walnuts and balsamic dressing
• Thai free-range chicken & peanut curry with pineapple rice and spicy crackers
• Moroccan-spiced free-range chicken served with kumara mash, red wine jus and seasonal vegetables

Although we are not normally Bed and Breakfast people, we were quickly made to feel very welcome and at ease with Andy the owner, almost as though we were prior friends. Having said that, Andy quickly disappeared into his nearby house but was always on call if needed.

I must also mention Andy’s cooking skills. Not only did we enjoy the speciality breakfasts, but also the wonderful dinner that he prepared for us.

Thank you again Andy. We certainly recommend Lupton Lodge to any and all who may be looking for accommodation in your area and hope that we will meet up with you again in the future.

On arriving we had a warm welcome and were shown to our room in this delightfully restored period home. Loved the little touches such as the home made fudge by the bed and the fresh milk in the fridge. a few minutes later we were settled down on the balcony with a chilled glass of white.The bed is comfortable and the bathroom roomy.

Breakfast in the morning was fruit kebabs, poached egg, bacon and spinach on a muffin and of course toast and coffee. We stayed two nights and could easily have stayed longer. Andy is happy to chat and point you in the right direction but is also just as happy to leave you to it if that’s what you prefer.

The evening meal was good too – we had fish ( but I can’t spell it!) which was served with vegetables and kamura mash, followed by creme brûlée.

I would certainly recommend this as the place to stay if you are in the area.

Welcoming hosts, lovely room and plenty of on site facilities we really did not have time to appreciate fully.

Great off road parking and plenty of turning space.

A beautiful character home renovated and restored with a few creature comforts!

Fabulous breakfast prepared by Andy – who is a fountain of local information.

Next time we will book in for one of their evening meals.

Only 3 rooms, so plan to book – we were lucky to strike a night with a spare room.

Room Tip: We had a room with separate ensuite and private lounge, but they also have another room with a bath…

Its a shame we only had time to stay for one night. The room is magnificent. The room has a big bed and is nicely decorated. The owners like art and it shows in the room. The already spacious bedroom comes with a private lounge and a separate bathroom. The building itself is one of the older buildings in New Zealand, which makes it a treat on itself.

The owner went out all the way to help us. We could drop our luggage before we went on a trip, even though the room wasn’t free. He called the guys from the trip to warn em we would be a tad later due to roadworks. When we came back the luggage we dropped off was already in the room.

If you let the owner know beforehand he can cook you dinner. Its a shame he only cooks for his guest, cause the food was superb. The owner takes pride in making sure you are well treated. Its a delight to be there. Really can recommend this place to anyone travelling here.

Room Tip: We had the red room which was amazing. Pretty sure the other rooms are just as fine though.

Andy is a wonderful host, always ready to make your stay enjoyable. He is also a very good cook; I had two dinners and breakfasts and all were delicious, well presented, with fresh ingredients: I think the eggs were from his hens, as I saw one in the courtyard.

Wonderful beaches and walks to do around, one could easily spend a few days there.

Room Tip: I had the Gold Room, which is the smallest as I was travelling alone, but it is big enough for two…
